For 2021-22, the tuition fee for SCITTELS PGCE and Colegrave School Direct PGCE programmes is £9,250. Most trainees are entitled to a loan for the tuition fee via the Student Loan Company.
Trainees do not need a confirmed place on a teacher training programme in order to apply for a Student Loan. You can apply with your preferred choice and you can change details later if required which will ensure that your student finance is ready for the start of your course.
Those paying privately will need to pay in full by December. SCITTELS retains a quarter of the fee if trainees leave before December.
There is a fee of £3,000 for the School Direct Salaried programme – those on this programme are also not eligible for student loans or bursaries as they are employed.
Additional Maintenance Loans
Maintenance Loans are available to help with your living costs while you are on the programme and the amount of Maintenance Loan you can get depends on where you live and study. The Maintenance Loan will be partly based on an assessment of household income (i.e. your own income and that of anyone you live with e.g. your partner or parents). Repayment of the loan will start when your studies are over and your income is over £25,000 a year.
Bursaries are available to trainees on a fee-based teacher training course with SCITTELS. Availability is dependent on your highest relevant academic award and the subject in which you are training to teach.
You’ll need a first or a 2:1 to be eligible for a bursary.
An overview of the generous bursaries available can be found in the table below:
There is some additional help that you may be able to get, such as Income Support, Disabled Students’ Allowances and Adult Dependants’ Grant. Please refer to www.gov.uk/student-finance/extra-help for more information.
